I have developed software and methods for gathering and analysing web data, including sentiment analysis, altmetrics and content analysis for Twitter, YouTube, blogs and the general web. Most of the software is free online for academic use and is written from a social sciences perspective – to help understand social processes. I have written 225 refereed journal articles, 23 chapters and two books, including Introduction to Webometrics. I am an associate editor of the Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology and sit on three other editorial boards.
Images are so important to our daily lives, but often seem to be left behind in social science research – this research should start to remedy this and help to open up a huge area of human creativity and communication for study.
